About the Broad Behind the Apron

Pin It Now!

I love food.
I love to eat.
I love to talk about food. And it is the only thing that I talk about.

Well. Almost the only thing that I talk about.

I can easily ramble on about my love for dresses and a good pair of high heels. Oh, and a great cup of diner coffee. Yum. The more of a dive the diner is, the better the coffee.

Well. I can just easily ramble, you don't have to see my 2nd grade report card to know that it's an on-going problem.

I seem to be sprinting into my mid-twenties in a crazy life with a hunky husband and a bad and smelly hound dog (okay, so she's only mildly smelly and is only bad when she goes through the trash, but she is most certainly a hound dog).
My husband's the one on the right. H to the Unk.

I tend to take a lot of risks when I cook and bake. Maybe it's the result of a nervous energy. Or perhaps of my never fully growing up. Or maybe both.

I tend to take this nervous energy / lack of maturity out on flatbreads and ice cream. Poor guys. What did they ever do to me?!

I started this little blog in 2009, shortly after I got engaged. I realized that as a wife, it would be unacceptable to feed a hungry husband my usual dinner of corn and black bean salsa / blue corn chips or a red velvet cupcake for dinner every night.

Yeup, you guessed it. I had to learn how to cook. I didn't really know the first thing about cooking. I mean, I once screwed up making Jell-O. Jell-O. Pure shame. Just ask my brother-in-law about it, he still makes fun of me for it to this day. And rightfully so.

Blogging about my journey was scary at first. Isn't there a better way of learning than by putting it all out there on the internet for the world to see?! Not if you are a glutton for punishment. I didn't even understand the concept of food photography and/or food presentation and I took just about every photo with my Blackberry....

This is almost to embarrassing to post!

....and I didn't quite grasp that posting a breakfast consisting of egg whites and spinach doesn't really constitute as a blog worthy recipe. *Palm on forehead*

But! There's hope for you non-cooks out there! I am coming along with my cooking and photography skills! And you can do it, too! This serves as proof that you can! I mean, I get food in my hair almost every day, and trip about twice. If I can do it, anyone can do it.

Lump Crab & Pumpkin Flatbread
Banana Muffins with Mascarpone Frosting

Fresh Garden Salsa

Needless to say I don't use my Blackberry any longer. I now use a Canon EOS Rebel XS with a macro lens that I am obsessed with. Does sleeping with a lens constitute as unhealthy behavior?

You'll also see my stuff on ShopRite's Potluck Blog and Examiner Philadelphia!

So, what can it hurt?, follow me on my little journey of wifedom, cookdom, bakedom, and blogdom.
